Taking samples, such as stomach contents/tissue/urine/blood are often beneficial for the diagnosis and management of toxicity cases.
In cases where toxicity is suspected but not confirmed, we can discuss test results and confirm the likelihood of certain toxins. In fatal cases, sample collection can be useful for diagnosis post-mortem. Samples can be analysed for toxins themselves, or reveal other details which may indicate toxicity.
VPG (Veterinary Pathology Group) offer qualitative testing of samples- useful for investigation and management of toxin cases.
We can advise on sample selection for toxicology and provide contact details for VPG- vets can call the VPIS on 02073 055 055.
