On 22nd January, we were informed of an incident in Childwall, Liverpool involving several dogs being admitted to local vet practices after walking through a park.

It was reported at the time that the dogs had come into contact with a substance, thought to be an opioid. At least 3 dogs have died following the exposure even after the administration of naloxone, with others becoming unwell to varying degrees and all having to receive veterinary treatment.

The parkland near Childwall Valley Road was cordoned off and the public were asked to avoid the area but the scene has now been stood down. The white substance has been sent for forensic analysis and Merseyside Police are continuing to investigate where it came from.
