Valentines Day is traditionally an opportunity to shower the ones we love with gifts – usually in the form of chocolates and flowers. Although some of us may love our pets enough to warrant gifting them this Valentines, it is important to remember the dangers of these agents to our pets. Chocolate is toxic to cats, dogs, and rabbits (among many other species), and most flowers will (at least) cause gastrointestinal upset if ingested. Notable toxic flowers to mention are lillies (causing renal failure in cats, and possible gastrointestinal upset in dogs) – even exposure to the water which lillies are kept in is extremely dangerous for cats.
