Access to emergency drugs may sometimes be an issue in the management of poisoning. To further address this, CVS, who have a large network of practices, including out-of-hours and referral centres, have launched Elixir. Several CVS practices now hold the following drugs and have made them available to all UK practices, including practices outside of CVS.

  • Acetylcysteine
  • Activated charcoal
  • Apomorphine
  • Adder antivenom
  • Ethanol
  • Fresh frozen plasma
  • Intralipid®
  • Methocarbamol
  • Naloxone
  • Vitamin K1

This new service is in addition to ToxBox from Vets Now and their host practices. The VPIS also has a list of other practices that hold drugs that can be obtained in an emergency.
